System Administrator
Job Description:
This client, the global leader in enabling Business-Critical Continuity™ from grid to chip for telecommunication networks,
data centers, health care and industrial facilities currently is seeking a System Administrator for Columbus, Ohio.
Essential Functions:
• Assist in server relocations and installations.
• Assist in the creation and ongoing development of systems and procedures for IT department.
• Perform system audits to ensure procedures and policiesare being effectively implemented and adhered to.
• Under general supervision, design specific enhancements and plans upgrades to operating systems.
• Manage projects related to the implementation of new servers, server applications and or server upgrades.
• Document network hardware and software procedures.
• Support and maintain Windows Active Directory.
• Provide second-level support telephone support.
• Under general supervision, troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software compatibility issues based on systems
architecture, project requirements, customer expectations, etc. Involved in creating design specifications and the
development and application of utility programs.
• Under general supervision, design, develop and troubleshoot complex hardware and software programs for computer
based systems.
• Confer with engineers or management to obtain information on limitations and capabilities of existing system and
capabilities required for projected workload.
• Analyze information to determine, plan and recommend layouts for type of computers and peripheral equipment or
modifications to existing equipment and systems that will provide capability for proposed project or workload, efficient
operation, and effective use of allotted space.
• Plan, communicate and document all work; especially changes to production equipment. Help ensure processes and
systems lend themselves to easy documentation, control, reliability, and recoverability.
• Maintain a broad knowledge of technology, equipment, and vendors. Use creative thought to solve issues.
Qualifications include:
• Bachelors Degree in computer or technology related field preferred.
• MCSE preferred.
• Sharing 24x7 on-call support responsibilities.
• 3+ years industry related experience.
• Ability to write scripts in some administrative language.
• Experience with high-availability corporate tools such as Exchange, MS SQL Server, VMWare, etc.
• Working skills in the use of MS Windows Server plus skills in one or more areas such as Citrix, Storage
Area Networking, Monitoring tools.
• Ability to discuss various problems logically and intelligently with software support representatives.
• Proficiency with backup and disaster recovery applications, network security systems.
• Ability to research and evaluate new hardware, software or vendor options and make recommendations
based on both the technology and
business issues.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize job requirements.
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical procedures, governmental regulations, and business periodicals.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
